Our Story

Founded with Youth in Mind

Boat Safe was started by Todd Hanes, an Ohio educator and U.S. Coast Guard–credentialed captain who has spent his career supporting young people, including those in underserved communities. His experience and leadership ensure our programs are safe, accessible, and built on proven educational practice.

OUR COMMITMENT

Safety. Access. Opportunity.

We believe every young person should have the chance to learn safely, explore confidently, and feel supported on the water. Boat Safe is committed to creating a positive, encouraging learning environment where students build skills they carry for life.
